Vidya Balan's love affair with nosepins
It’s Vidya Balan’s birthday today. As we wish her a day full
of surprises and fun, we take a stroll down to memory lane. In the 90s, she had
replaced Amita Nangia as Radhika in the sitcom Hum Paanch. As soon as the show went
off air in 1999, the actress too sank into oblivion. Viewers missed the show. But no
one remembered her.
Six years later, Vidya was reported to have been
making a comeback with films in Bhalo Theko and Pareenita. The industry and
movie-buffs sat up and took notice of her unparalleled acting chops as soon as
the films hit the theatres. She was an overnight star. But only Vidya alone
knows, how difficult these six years were when either she was replaced or the
projects altogether got shelved when she was struggling to get a break in south
films. It was her never say die attitude that kept her going.
However, her attempts to play typical heroine roles in
Kismat Konnection and Heyy Baby, backfired. This did not bog down her either. Once
again, she reinvented her craft and carved a niche for herself with Paa, The Dirty
Picture and Kahani. She was fondly being called the female Khan of Bollywood, as she
guaranteed a hit then. Soon she ran out of luck and her back to back releases –
Kahani 2, Begum Jaan, Bobby Jasoos… flopped. But in 2017, she bounced back with a commercial success - Tumhari Sulu.
When time is not right, everything you do goes wrong. So while her films failed to leave a mark, even her styling was panned appearance after appearance. From shape to sartorial choices, everything about her was
brutally criticised by the fashion police. But she took the criticism in her stride
and instead of fitting in, she stood out with her unique style statement and today, she’s
amongst the trendsetter of the fashion industry. From walking ramps for well-known
designers to endorsing fashion labels, she has championed it all.
Here are the top ten appearances when she slayed the fashion game in designer clothes and statement jewellery. Especially the variety in nosepins that she flaunted like a boss, calls for attention.
